On May 20, Lai Ching-te was inaugurated as Taiwan’s president alongside his deputy Hsiao Bi-khim. The duo hail from the Democratic Progressive Party, which has drawn ire from China for championing Taiwan’s sovereignty.
Alongside managing news coverage of the inauguration ceremony, I also wrote profiles of the two leaders who Beijing branded “an independent duo.”
